Ears Wide Open: Albert

Albert is a new band fronted by singer-songwriter Nolan Bryan, who you imagine spent the better part of his youth rooting around in his family’s vinyl collection to find classic roots-rock, soul and California country. The debut album “Businessman” follows up a solo EP that Bryan released in 2013 backed by some of the same players in Albert, where’s he joined by guitarist Mike Coulter, drummer Johnny Sneed, keyboardist-vocalist Jamie Elman, violinist-vocalist Claire Wellin, bassist Ryan Porter, bassist Joel Bunn and horn players Ryan Porter and Eric Hargett. “Businessman” is well-crafted trad rock — comfort food, if you need a cuisine comparison — and most of it was produced and mixed Grammy-winner Justin Guip, engineer on much of Levon Helm’s late-career work, at the late Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s namesake studios in Woodstock, N.Y.
