Coachella 2015: Joyce Manor, punk in the sun

Who: Joyce Manor on the Outdoor Stage
In 3 or Fewer Words: Sunday taken back.
Memorable Because: Emo-tinged punk was a sub-theme across this year’s lineup and Joyce Manor from Torrance represented the poppy Epitaph Records variety with distinction. Sneering, groaning about girls, tales of watershed moments at parties gone wrong … It was all there under the sun, and tons of fun to boot. Beaming fans reveled in their shared angst to “Leather Jacket” and “Schley,” the latter in which frontman Barry Johnson sings “I don’t care / I’m never gonna / It sounds better when you’re high on marijuana.” Undoubtedly some were, but no drugs required to enjoy this rollicking set — which, unfortunately, was scheduled at the same time as another band with South Bay roots, from another generation, the Keith Morris-fronted OFF!
What I’d Tell My Friend Who Was At MØ: Not my jam, but mø power to you. Heard it was a trip.
