Who: Father John Misty at the Outdoor Theatre
In 3 or Fewer Words: Playing misty.
Memorable Because: Where to begin with Josh Tillman’s return to Coachella after his unforgettable 2013 show? With the start of his 10-song set, illuminated only by a neon heart in the back with script reading “No Photography?” It’s funny he would disdain Kodak moments when his new album “I Love You, Honeybear” is one big Hallmark card. With his wry humor? “I’m honored to have all the depressive, sad bastard people here,” he said. “We deserve representation at this thing.” With his cover of Leonard Cohen’s “I’m Your Man,” sung to a female audience member seated onstage? The dancers made that weird. With his maniacally theatrical performance of eight songs from the new album, along with one oldie, “Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sign?” Nobody breaks the fourth wall like Tillman, an honest man trapped in a profession where honesty is regarded as a conceit. It’s only going to get stranger, honeybear.
What I’d Tell My Friend Who Was Trying to Take Pictures: Tillman’s wife is a photographer.
