The cinematic electro-rock of L.A.’s Of Verona first emerged in 2011, when Toronto-born singer Mandi Perkins began collaborating with producer/multi-instrumentalist Dillon Pace. The full-length they released in 2012, “The White Apple,” had legs — it got the deluxe edition treatment the following year and yielded singles such as “Castles,” “Match” and, most recently, “Dark in My Imagination,” along with a slew of placements in film and TV shows. Their new single “Stay Gold” is probably the most pop thing they’ve done yet, with fashionably colorful synths atop of chugging rhythms, with Perkins sounding like every ’80s crush you ever had. Is all that glitters gold? These days, at least, it seems like it.
