Video: Low Cut Connie, ‘Shake It Little Tina’

1

Low Cut Connie are bringing old school boogie and rockabilly back to rock ’n’ roll. Taking cues from Jerry Lee Lewis, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, Chuck Berry and the like, they are piano-thumping their way across the country. It all started when songwriters Adam Weiner, a pianist from Jersey slaving away in a drag karaoke bar in NYC, and Dan Finnemore, a rockabilly Brit, met in England, got stuck on an elevator for four hours, then decided to join musical forces. James Everhart (lead guitar) and Will Donnelly (bass, drums) were added to the lineup, and now Low Cut Connie are revving up for the release of their third album, “Hi Honey,” out April 21 via Weiner’s Contender Records. The follow-up to 2011’s “Get Out the Lotion” and 2012’s “Call Me Sylvia,” the new album found the band teaming up with producer Thomas Brenneck, who has also worked with Alabama Shakes, Sharon Jones, Charles Bradley and Amy Winehouse. Weiner and Finnemore also brought in a slew of guests, including Merrill Garbus of Tune-Yards and Dean Ween. Their live performances have earned a reputation for being a fun, rowdy, down-and-dirty punk show. With a song like “Shake It Little Tina,” it’s clear that dancing and sweating are required to survive Low Cut Connie live. The video features the comedy and dancing talents of the Instagram dance king, Adam Carpenter. He’s got moves, and Low Cut Connie has the music to move to.
