Video: The Wombats, ‘Greek Tragedy’

The Wombats have started 2015 with a bang by releasing their newest single, “Greek Tragedy” off their forthcoming LP, “Glitterbug,” out April 7th via Bright Antenna Records. Zane Lowe deemed the track “Hottest Record” on Radio 1, a high honor for the Liverpool lads. Singer Matthew ‘Murph’ Murphy, bassist Tord Øverland Knudsen and drummer Dan Haggis spent some time in Los Angeles working on 2011’s “This Modern Glitch” and Murph was hooked. “Glitterbug” was inspired by the City of Angels and a rollercoaster relationship with a fictional local woman. As Murph puts it, “That became the main inspiration for most of the songs, this false world that I’d created for myself. The album’s about the envy and the struggle and the pretense and the worry and the fear that L.A. – and every major city in the world – encompasses.” The new single is filled with the catchy hooks and danceable indie rock that we’ve come to expect from The Wombats. The accompanying video for “Greek Tragedy,” directed by Finn Keenan, equally represents their irrefutable sense of humor. Featuring the ultimate fangirl (played by “Skins” star April Pearson), the video escalates from, “calm down, nobody wants to be ‘that girl’” to full blown “Gone Girl” status. Inspired by L.A., huh? Um…at least it’s nice to know we left an impression. Right?
