I feel like Santa, only in vice grips. In preparation for my annual “Popular With Me” countdown of songs from Los Angeles artists, I made a list, and checked it … well, a lot. I started with a folder of about 350 songs, one per artist, to winnow things down to 2014’s Buzz Bands LA 101, and today the first of three segments airs on The Independent FM. The year was dominated by synth-pop, but my favorites list hops from rock to electro to singer-songwriter fare, with a few twists. Tune in at 11 a.m. for songs Nos. 101 through 71; the countdown continues Dec. 19 and 26. Apologies in advance for egregious omissions – it’s been a tough year to keep up.
