Ears Wide Open: Life Leone

Brady Erickson’s rock band the Ross Sea Party released a 2010 EP and 2012 full-length of perfectly fine anthemic rock ā€™nā€™ roll, but in 2013 the singer-guitarist closed the books on the that project and assumed the persona of Life Leone, desert mystic. The sonic difference is striking; Life Leone’s debut EP “Comes Crashing In” was built on guitar tones that sound like a chainsaw in a sandstorm, all heavy fuzz and propulsive rhythms and Erickson’s sturdy vocals cutting through. Life Leone’s new single “I Can’t Say No” has a similar scuzzy urgency; it’s a bit reminiscent of the Strokes and underrated Texas fuzz-rockers the Deathray Davies. Hit that pedal.
