London-born and -raised Claire Courchene has been Los Angeles-based for over five years, after receiving dual performance degrees from the University of Miami in both jazz trombone and cello. In that time, the multi-hyphenate, multi-instrumentalist producer and songwriter has performed and worked with a multitude of artists including Frank Ocean, Lana Del Ray, Quadron, Rhye and Kanye West. Her solo project goes by the moniker Ana-Tole, which she produces, records and writes, fusing electronica with organic elements to create textured music with influences in jazz and R&B and with contributions from different vocalists she’s worked with. “For a Night” is an uptempo banger that morphs and percolates its wobbly synthline through different incarnations as Niia’s sultry vocals float above the groove. She also has a collaborative project in the works with Joomanji’s Jonah Christian that will release the “Heartspank” EP on Dec. 1. Their lush track “Unrequited Thoughts” pulses with a percussive underbelly, and swells with keys, synth and a diverse array of production snaps, crackles and booms.
