Video: Olivia Jean, ‘Reminisce’

2

Olivia Jean was a member of the short-lived garage rock trio the Black Belles, who released an album in 2011 that was produced by Jack White and released on Third Man Records. As a solo artist, she continues to be mentored by White – her debut “Bathtub Love Killings,” which features new material and some revisited old Black Belles songs that didn’t make the cut for the album, came out in October. The Michigan native also spent time backing Wanda Jackson, and it’s hard to not to think of the Queen of Rockabilly just looking at Olivia Jean, let alone hearing the spirited “Toot, Toot, Tootsie!” Not that the album is all retro; there’s some modern garage-rock and new-wave flourishes as well. The video for “Reminisce” makes it clear, however, that image is as important as music here; next weekend, after all, Olivia Jean will be the subject of an “art installation” (read: pop-up store) in Los Angeles.
