Stream: The Primitives, ‘Petals’

theprimitives2014

Few indie-pop revivals surprised us more than the reformation of the Primitives, one of the U.K. originals from the 1980s. They gave the world “Crash” – you remember “Crash,” right? (and if you don’t you might mutter something like, “Ohmygawd, that sounds like half the female-fronted bands in Echo Park”) – and released three albums between 1985 and ’92. They parted ways until reuniting to release a 2011 EP and 2012 covers album, neither of which earned much notice on this side of the pond. Now, the current lineup of Tracy Cattell (aka Tracy Tracy), Paul Court, Raph Moore and Tig Williams have made their first album of original material in 22 years. “Spin-O-Rama” comes out next week on Elefant Records. Whether it’s Tracy Tracy or songwriter Paul Court on lead vocals, the quartet’s jangling melodies are pure ear candy. Still sweet after all this time.
