Ears Wide Open: GNTLMN

GNTLMN

The first single from the duo GNTLMN sounds like every regret we had in the 1980s. And we had a few. It’s gorgeous, slow-motion melancholy that the new duo is calling “manic depressive dream-pop.” GNTLMN is the nom de tune of Natalia Rogovin (of Social Studies) in alliance with Nima Kazerouni (of So Many Wizards/Crown Plaza). Rogovin’s mournful voice is framed by Kazerouni’s light guitars and guitar-guy falsetto on the EP the duo have made with producer Lewis Pesacov (Best Coast, Fool’s Gold, et al). Overall it’s not far from another brooding pop duo who caught our ears this year, Pr0files. It’s like another prominent local electro-pop artist used to say: “C’mon, get sad.”
