SlowMagic

There is no better description of Slow Magic’s sound other than the self-described “sound made by an imaginary friend.” In a world desperate to categorize things, Slow Magic (artist and sound) manages to stay impressively enigmatic. New album “How to Run Away” will be released next week on Downtown Records and after an early sneak listen, Slow Magic’s anonymity and atmospheric dream-synth continue to pave the way to the bedroom, or the dance floor, or outer space. “How to Run Away” is a euphoric collection of airy and sparkling synth – cosmic organ sounds with occasional vocals and smooth ambient chillness. With such a short supply of background information, Slow Magic is able to release meticulously produced music without the outward image, leaving his craft represented only by its otherworldly sound, a tribal mask and a MacBook. “Youth Group” and “Girls” hold the most eerie anticipation on the album, with unique tempos that suggest Slow Magic is more of a percussionist than we realize. Like so many of the tracks “On Your Side” has a very cinematic quality, moody and illusory. “Closer” is speckled with sugary vocals that make you feel both very close and very far away.
