New Zealand’s Liam Finn has never been one to shy away from experimenting on his albums, but on his third studio album “The Nihilist,” he replaces the organic soundscapes with a ton of synths. Diving into the electro-rock realm but still maintaining that boisterous pop fuzz, Finn has written songs like the high-strung ‘Burn Up the Road” and the witty “Snug As Fuck.” The former is accompanied by a Tron-like clip where Finn competes in an apocalyptic motorbike race with Australian musician Kirin J Callinan. The graphics are cheeky but the dramatic speed is appropriate for the energetic tune. “The Nihilist” is out now via Liberation Music.
