A lot of the time, less is more, and Brooklyn’s She Keeps Bees have mastered that mantra on their latest album “Eight Houses.” This will be the fourth full-length released by Jessica Larrabee and Andy LaPlant, but it will be the first time they are working with an outside producer. With Nicolas Vernhes (Deerhunter, The War On Drugs, Dirty Projectors, etc.) lending a hand in the studio, She Keeps Bees continues to pour out sultry and minimalist tunes. Larrabee’s vocals have never been ostentatious – her singing and LaPlant’s drumming had them likened to the White Stripes, Patti Smith and Cat Power in their early days – but the reservation she uses on the new material has somehow made the duo’s arrangements even more enticing. Guests on the album include Adam Schatz and Sharon Van Etten, who provides backing vocals on “Is What It Is” and “Owl.” She Keeps Bees’ “Eight Houses” is slated for a Sept. 16 release via Future Gods.
