Stream: Pr0files, ‘Luxury’

The hard-to-type but easy-on-the-ears duo Pr0files emerged last year, its principals Danny Sternbaum and Lauren Pardini both boasting impressive songwriting credentials. Besides rocketing them to the top of the synth-pop duo class, their first single “Call Yourself a Lover” offered an intense, hypnotic foray into the dark world of regret, a moodiness they’ve maintained in their smoke-machine-addled live shows. Now comes the new song “Luxury,” the title track of Pr0files’ debut EP (out Sept. 16 via Straight A Records). It has a sultry and, yes, luxurious ’80s vibe – like “living in a five-star dream,” as Pardini sings. She explains on Consequence of Sound, where the song premiered: “For me, ‘Luxury’ is about that rare moment when all-out lust aligns with true love and you end up having the best sex of your life.” This one makes for a pretty powerful afterglow.
