Video: Christopher Owens, ‘Nothing More Than Everything To Me’

Christopher Owens, who has already shown he’s capable of having a post-Girls career with last year’s solo debut “Lysandre,” will be returning with “A New Testament” this fall. The sophomore release already sounds stronger, but only in regards to the record brimming with tender emotion. Owens continues to use his delicate tenor to speak volumes and when one of his musical narratives needs a boost, the soulful singers he’s recruited during his late Girls days still wonderfully heighten vulnerability’s intensity. Songs like the blatant country love song “Nothing More Than Everything To Me” as well as gospel-tinged “Stephen” and “It Comes Back to You” are unabashedly personal but massively mainstream to those who can identify with the same life struggles. Director Max Minghella (“The Social Network”) even tries to capture one of these simple yet monumental moments in life in the clip  for “Nothing More Than Everything to Me.” Owens’ “A New Testament” has fellow musicians John Anderson, Darren Weiss, Makeda, Danny Eisenberg and Doug Boehm returning as contributors, and the album is slated for a Sept. 30 release via Turnstile.
