The songs on Sharon Van Etten’s widely and deservedly praised fourth album “Are We There” are heart-rending and honest and oh-so-serious. But that doesn’t mean the 33-year-old singer-songwriter is; on Saturday night at the El Rey Theatre, she treated the big crowd to plenty of light-hearted banter, including suggesting at one point that she just finish the night doing cover songs. It wasn’t to be. Van Etten started and ended the show with songs from the new album, with the main set-ending “Your Love Is Killing Me” and encore-closing “Every Time the Sun Comes Up” offering up two prime examples of her virtuosity.
