Multi-hyphenate Taylor McFerrin has concocted a multi-faceted sound for his debut LP “Early Riser,†now out via Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder Records. Son of the legendary Bobby McFerrin, the Brooklyn-based beatboxer, composer, DJ, pianist and producer took six years to complete the album, which draws influences from beat scene electro, experimental jazz, golden age hip-hop and retro soul, and features a slew of guest stars. “The Antidote†exudes some soulful warmth over eccentric electro-R&B production, “Decisions†sounds like FlyLo remixing Little Dragon, and “Already There†is a free-flowing spacey jazz exploration with Robert Glasper on keys and Thundercat on bass. Listen to all three below.
