Ears Wide Open: Camcorder

camcorder

Add San Fernando Valley-based Camcorder to the long, long list of Los Angeles bands with an Anglophile streak a mile wide. The popgazing on Camcorder’s five-song sophomore EP “Presence” echoes with the DNA of bands such as Ride, the Jesus & Mary Chain and Chapterhouse, and some of their SoCal descendents like Medicine and the Lassie Foundation. The dreamy textures are the work of singer-guitarist Christian Le Guilloux, bassist/guitarists Zac Casler and Kris Morris and drummer Edward Cerecedes – pop songs imagined as landscapes, their pastel colors moving in a swirl of guitars and effects. Fans who to this day feast on a steady diet of ’80s and ’90s British indie music (and contemporaries who use that as source code) will want to add this EP to their menu.
