Singer-guitarist Xander Smith has been busy. He’s been continent-hopping with his neo-shoegaze band Run Run Run and working on his second solo album, “Outside” – which includes contributions from New Order’s Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris and Phil Cunningham. The fan-funded “Ouside,” due July 15, features Smith in straight-ahead singer-songwriter form, recalling the troubadours of the 1970s on the shimmering ballad “Say Anything.” The album is the follow-up to 2012’s “Hey San Pedro,” but it’s not a sign that Smith has abandoned Run Run Run’s ’90s-styled alt-rock. The band’s 2011 self-titled LP compiled several years worth of songs, and RX3 is long overdue for something new. And this week they revealed the video for “Penmar Park,” directed by Danny Drysdale and featuring sign-dancers, a mysterious satchel, good guys, bad guys and you-can’t-quite-tell guys. Have fun.
