Ears Wide Open: Linus Young

Linus Young

The L.A. duo Linus Young has a rebel aesthetic, boy/girl harmonies and slow-burning songs that are ever-so-rough around the edges. Comprised of members Joseph Walker and Iris Belson, Linus Young joins the likes of In the Valley Below in offering sultry vocals, light percussion and moody atmospherics as a sexier alternative to duos like the Civil Wars. Everything from their video for “City of Sin” to collaborating with producer Malay on their forthcoming debut is an intriguing move for the band’s direction. Malay, who is known as the brains behind Frank Ocean’s “Channel Orange” and production on tUnE-yArDs’ latest album “Nicki Nack,” is one of the few Grammy Award-winning people helping the Island Records-affiliated twosome in the studio, but the spark between Walker and Belson alone will most likely be what gets the fire going. A live recording of new song “Sister” might persuade you.
