“Little Earthquakes,” the new single from songwriting couple Imperial Mammoth, seems especially timely, with all the modest temblors that have rattled southern California recently. Its creators, Leonard Jackson and Laura Jane Scott, know a thing or two about being shaken. Says Jackson: “We wrote it about our childhood experience with major earthquakes (Loma Prieta for me and Northridge for Laura), and trying now as adults to stop fearing the things we can’t control.” The song will appear on Imperial Mammoth’s ambitious full-length “Gold Confetti” (out June 24). The album takes the duo’s boy-girl pop to the next level, with lush instrumentation framing the agile melodies and sweet harmonies that have helped Imperial Mammoth’s music find a home in myriad television shows and movies. Since their early successes (including a song on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1″ soundtrack), Jackson and Scott have moved the project out of the studio; they’ll be performing as part of a five-piece behind the new album.
