Stream: J Litt, ‘Heaven’

jlittJack Littman is growing his music and shortening his name. The L.A. native, who emerged in 2010 as a singer-songwriter dealing in off-kilter folk, is now going by J Litt, which not only rolls off the tongue, it allows for the endearingly punny new EP title, “Too J Litt to Quit.” The new six-song collection, which comes out next week, continues the explorations into electronica, hip-hop and soul that Littman began with last year’s “The Remedy Vol. 1.” The multi-instrumentalist maintains a chill vibe on the new EP, both production-wise and vocally, and his compositions, augmented by layered and looped vocals and samples, don’t quite fall neatly into today’s prevalent “alt R&B” category. The new single “Heaven” is a bit of a test at almost 6 minutes long, but the twitching “Sexy Times #9” is an irresistible earworm, and “The Keymaster” takes a ’70s-styled acoustic guitar jam in an ethereal direction. “Too J Litt” will be out digitally and as a limited-edition cassette.
