Coachella 2014: Warpaint, more uncomplicated

Who: Warpaint in the Mojave Tent
In 3 or Fewer Words: Charm school.
Memorable Because: Seldom in my years of watching the L.A. darlings have I ever felt Warpaint was actually having fun. Even more inscrutable onstage than on their meticulous albums, Emily Kokal, Theresa Wayman, Jenny Lee Lindberg and Stella Mozgawa demand a certain level of commitment from show-goers (and we’re not talking about your gawking, dudes). Warpaint’s turn in the Mojave Tent, though, felt like a house party that eventually yields memorable moments. It was, dare we say, feel-good. We figured when Warpaint was announced for Coachella that the songs from their self-titled sophomore album, which came out in January, would make a perfect sunset serenade at the Outdoor Theatre. Instead, they were in a tent, faces aglow and their music totally approachable.
What I’d Tell My Friend Who Was At Washed Out: You could feel it all around, or feel it all around.
