Who: Haim at the Outdoor Theatre
In 3 or Fewer Words: “All the Taim”
Memorable Because: Immediately following Grouplove’s explosive Main Stage set, the other big SoCal band brought their sister act to the sweltering sun of the Outdoor Theatre. Judging from the crowd reaction, most in the slow-cooking crowd had heard bassist Este Haim’s endearing potty mouth before. You know, the part where she invites everyone to their house in Valley Village and the Haim ladies whip out their instruments and bleep your bleeping bleeps off. On their debut “Days Are Gone,” Haim plays ’90s R&B revivalists, but live they are equal parts jam band, hip-hop and R&B seductresses. Since Day 1, they’ve played fiercely, and they did Friday, as if to prove a point to any remaining neanderthals who think they are just three heads of long, beautiful hair and doubt their actual musical chops. There were Haim fans walking around the grounds in T-shirts that read “Haim All the Taim.” And it was hot. Or, as Este said, “I’m schvitzing my balls out right now.”
What I’d Tell My Friend Who Was At the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion: That was the one part of the Senior Tour I missed.
