Singer-guitarist Van Pierszalowski got into our heads not long after he departed the band Port O’Brien and started doing business as Waters. The 2011 full-length “Out in the Light,” inspired by time the songwriter spent in Norway, was a scuzzy take on power-pop with some explosive moments (see “For the One”). After finishing school, touring in support of his former band and settling in the Bay Area, Pierszalowski set about working on new material – including making occasional trips to L.A. to work with Ryan Rabin of Grouplove. The new single “Got to My Head” has a great hook, a gang chorus (naturally) and enough youthful sizzle to make us eager for Waters’ long-overdue follow-up.
