From the moment Yuck released the scrappy “Get Away” off their 2011 self-titled debut, the U.K. indie-rockers earned applause from shoegaze fans around the world, and they kept the momentum going with last year’s sophomore album “Glow & Behold.” It’s funny how much the London band has grown since, though, considering they lost former frontman Daniel Blumberg last April. With Max Bloom hopping on lead vocals and new live addition Ed Hayes helping on guitar, songs like “Rebirth” began to show a richer side to Yuck’s approach to rock. Proving they’ve gone even deeper into realm of shoegaze, the band’s new single “Athena” is downright lovely with its romantic melodies and breathing room between the layers of reverb. It may be a slower tempo here, but it’s nearly ethereal – a new level for Yuck. Hazy and yearning yet still fuzzy as ever, Yuck’s new material on forthcoming “Souther Skies” EP (slated for a spring release) should be another gorgeous listen.
