Ears Wide Open: Fleurs

Fleurs

We here at BBLA have made our peace with the excessive outpouring of synth-pop (also mostly duos) that are coming out of L.A., but every now and then there is a band whose electro flourishes are undeniably effervescent. Enter Fleurs, the duo comprised of Simon French and Jaq Diaz responsible for the refreshing four-track EP that bears the same name. Simon and Diaz’ musical relationship began simply as a friendly collaboration while scoring an independent feature under the moniker Kin Divine, but it’s their material together as Fleurs that comes off as enticing. “Start Again” slinks with a gothic sheen while “Try” offers a Tennis-like hook that is swirled in with some psych-pop elements. Also incorporating some shoegaze into the mix, Fleurs weaves intricate melodies and textures throughout their self-titled EP, which is out now via Gold Format Recordings.
