“Digital Smoke Signals” is the debut project from Los Angeles’ Got Damage, a new alternative rap duo composed of Geronimo $ and Spitting Bull. Their bio states that they have chosen “their own path using rap as ritual to channel messages of strength, spirit seeking, and exploration of the unknown, full of mythical themes and Native symbols,” steering clear of the current prevailing hip-hop and pop rap landscapes. Their music reinforces this, with the title track blaring forward with its heavy and experimental production, raging synth alarm and their doubled-up lyrics, “The current state of music, nothin’ is really original / I challenge you all to get your mind open and get a clue / And maybe somethin’ will spark and you can cause damage too / but for now we sendin’ out digital smoke signals.”
