Beware of Darkness, ‘All Who Remain’

1

Ever since his teenage years in the Martyrs, Santa Barbara native Kyle Nicolaides has done his darnedest to breathe fresh life into Led Zeppelin- and White Stripes-styled blues-rock. His power trio with Daniel Curcio and Tony Cupito, Beware of Darkness, made a dent this year with the single “Howl,” a tune that dates to Nicolaides’ solo days in 2010. To its credit, the trio’s debut album “Orthodox” (which came out May 7) was infused with more substantial lyrical depth than you get from your typical shredder, and Beware of Darkness spread the word all over the world in 2013, playing European and U.K. festivals, opening for Smashing Pumpkins and even traipsing around for two weeks on the Warped Tour. On the second single from “Orthodox,” “All Who Remain,” Nicolaides stares at mortality in a manner that belies his youth. Director Mandee Mallonee realizes the video for the song in an abandoned warehouse, where Nicolaides is trapped.
