Ears Wide Open: Sympathetic Frequencies

Sympathetic Frequencies aspire to belong to that shrinking subset of indie-rockers who regard their songs as more than just four minutes of escapism. The band – singer-guitarist Trevor O’Neill joined by guitarist Daniel Berkman, keyboardist Annie Aboulian, bassist Benjamin Borland and drummer Cory Coverstone – just released their first EP “Possible Oceans,” which was produced by Aki Ehara. O’Neill imbues his anthems with high-end atmospherics and low-end fury; the half-dozen rockers on the debut have the angsty yet hopeful feel that, especially in the 1990s, was “Some Kind of Drug.” Simmer, then bring to a boil.
