Stream: Wild Child, ‘Crazy Bird,’ ‘The Runaround’

When we caught Wild Child play to delighted fans in their hometown during SXSW, it wasn’t hard to hear how easy their folk-pop with a gypsy twist would find their way to fans in other locales. The Austin-based septet, who recently released their Ben Kweller-produced sophomore effort “The Runaround,” features fan favorites such as the whistle-happy “Crazy Bird” among other tunes that showcase the multi-instrumental talents of the band fronted by Kelsey Wilson and Alexander Beggins. The title track itself boasts an infectious piano riff alongside a playful banjo strum and a stomping chorus. Friendly but quirky melodies penetrate through Wild Child’s collective musical efforts, which translate to accessible but not trite. “The Runaround” is out now via the Noise Company.
