It hasn’t been uncommon to spot Holland Greco playing guitar, ukulele, keyboards, banjo or accordion in her various musical exploits over the past decade, but her best instrument remains her singing voice, an agile and evocative instrument that can range from torch singer to playful pop songstress. In the early 2000s, it was featured at the front of a band called the Peak Show, who were signed to Atlantic but dropped before their full-length album was released. Her projects since have included collaborations in the Stripminers and the Quick Hellos, among many others. Late last year, she self-released a covers EP, “Murdergram: Songs of the Misfits,” which featured her compelling takes on songs from Glenn Danzig’s horror-punk outfit. Those songs will comprise one-half of Greco’s debut album, “Volume 1,” which will come out in Feburary on Zappa Records, the label helmed by Frank’s widow Gail Zappa. Side A of the full-length is titled “Tunnel Vision,” which is kind of the cheer compared the B-side’s gloom. The originals were made with keyboardist Lisa Harriton (Smashing Pumpkins, Adam Lambert), bassist Joe Karnes (Fitz & the Tantrums), drummer PrincessFrank and horn players including Ryan Porter and Brian Warfield. Unpredictable, engaging, all that.
