Bulletin from the most revivalesque of our Los Angeles crop of revivalists: Eagle Rock Gospel Singers, the nine- to 13-member collective who came on the radar late last year singing the praises of the original Fab Four (“MMLJ,” of course), return this week with their “Burn Brightly” EP. Produced Matt Wignall (Cold War Kids, Mando Diao, J. Roddy Walston, among others) in Long Beach, the three new songs pulse with the energy of the pre-rock ā€™nā€™ roll era, when gospel greats such as the Dixie Hummingbirds raised their voices to the sky. ERGS’s impeccable harmonies here get a little more of a rock backdrop; “Burn Brightly” would fit into any playlist filled with radio’s current cast of suspendered folkies. Sing it loud.
