Diane Coffee

Some have seen Shaun Fleming as the drummer for Foxygen. Some may have seen his name in the credits of numerous Disney films and TV shows (“Tarzan,” “Kim Possible”). However, Fleming’s solo music is what will most likely earn him a gold star. Written during his brief stint as a New Yorker (after packing up in California and before settling down in Indiana), the album he’s released under the moniker Diane Coffee is one that echoes the greats. Fleming’s dalliance in psychedelia recalls the hippie years of the Beatles, and all the strong harmonies and choruses will make Beach Boys fans take notice. Yet with all these influences, Diane Coffee is its own hazy dream (he did write it while bored out of his mind while suffering the flu.) Foxygen’s Jonathan Rado lends a hand on a couple of tracks, but all you’ll hear is Fleming’s ability to write some winning folk pop considering his limited equipment. Even his tune “Eat Your Love (With Sriracha)” is ace. Diane Coffee’s “My Friend Fish” is out Oct. 29 via Western Vinyl.
