Ólafur Arnalds

For a 26-year-old, Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds has a pretty impressive resumé. His slow-burning yet meticulous compositions have found their way to numerous films (“Eulogy for Evolution,” “Hunger Games”) and several TV shows (his most recent gig scoring BBC’s hit show “Broadchurch”). However, Arnalds has quickly gained a fan base in the mainstream realm with his own releases. His latest album “For Now I Am Winter” follows-up 2010’s gorgeous “… And They Have Escaped the Weight of Darkness“ and seems to be Arnalds’ most straightforward collection of songs, but the combination of foreboding gloom and icy beauty remain intact and, most importanty, stunning. The title track, which features Arnór Dan on vocals, percolating with its soft percussion and swelling with string arrangements should have fans of Sigur Ros salivating for more. Ólafur Arnalds’ “For Now I Am Winter” is out now via Mercury Classics.
