Back when pop singers like Adele were getting popular for writing accessible ballads made for radio audiences, there was Diane Birch, whose itinerant upbringing and lifestyle choices influenced the soulful, Brill Building-like pop songs that resounded on her debut “Bible Belt.” Birch’s still got the Carole King vibe going on, but now at 30 (and now a New York transplant via Los Angeles), her life lessons have allowed her to embrace her strength as a ballad writer. With the voice that sounds beyond her years, the doe-eyed singer-songwriter is preparing the release of her long-awaited sophomore release “Speak A Little Louder” on S-Curve Records, and it’s got some familiar cameos. The Questlove-produced lead single co-written with Eg White, “All The Love You Got,” is full of dynamics that reveal her vulnerability as well as a hopeful view on life. Other guest appearances on the new record include Aqualung frontman Matt Hales, Dap-Kings drummer Homer Steinweiss and R&B singer Betty Wright. “Speak A Little Louder” is slated for an Oct. 15 release.
