London Grammar

If The xx were injected with some of Daughter’s human touches, they might sound a bit more like U.K. trio London Grammar. The group, comprised of vocalist Hannah Reid, bassist Dan Rothman and keyboard player/drummer Dot Major, brood in a similar fashion, but Reid’s love for classic pop singers such as Whitney Houston take London Grammar’s ballads such as “Wasting My Young Years” and “Hey Now” to another level of emoting. London Grammar’s talents can also be heard on Disclosure’s track “Help Me Lose My Mind,” but the first taste from their forthcoming album, “Strong,” indicates the trio’s ability to captivate on their own. A tender melody that arches into fiery passion, the single exemplifies the band’s strengths in cinematic song structure underneath Reid’s vocals that are yet again both beautifully naked and powerfully haunting. London Grammar’s “Metal & Dust” EP is out now.
