Video: Soko, ‘First Love Never Die’

The album “I Thought I Was an Alien” may be slated for an official Stateside release June 11 via Community Music, but chances are most fans of French chanteuse Stéphanie Sokolinski – aka Soko – will already know all 14 songs by heart.  Whether she’s acting in films or writing musical letters (like “I Just Want to make It New With You”) to her friends (like Ariel Pink) that end up on a debut full-length, Soko is an artist who is able to translate her own heavy sadness into prolific stories that are melodically whimsical as they are beautiful. Everything from her delicately cracked vocals to the little slices of cinema she presents as music videos, Soko makes sure her music pulls on any heart string that is tied to anything worth reminiscing about. Her latest video for “First Love Never Die,” which she co-directed with Matthew Gray Gubler on a ranch, is charming with every shot.
