Kan Wakan, the Silver Lake band whose sophisticated take on orchestral rock, Americana and soul quickly won them a following after they debuted last summer, has joined the diverse roster at Verve. Known at the outset as Oren Lyons before yielding to the wishes of the Native American rights advocate and changing their name, the band has tentative plans to release an album in the fall.

Kan Wakan (which is Lakota for “sundance”) initially was the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Gueorgui Linev, guitarist/co-producer Peter Potyondy and singer Kristianne Bautista. Now, violinist Dannon Rampton, drummer Keith Krey, keyboardist Jesse Aumiller and bassist Ian Anderson round out the septet, which is putting the finishing touches on the album that was co-produced by Darrell Thorp (Radiohead, Beck), Linev and Potyondy and is being mixed by Tom Elmhirst (Adele, Goldfrapp, Amy Winehouse).
