Ears Wide Open: Boardwalk

The first single from Boardwalk establishes the L.A. duo as aspirants to the legacy of the likes of Mazzy Star and Slowdive. Originally starting as a collaboration between Mike Edge and Amber Quintero, Boardwalk was joined by Mark Noseworthy (Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros) on guitar and bass, and the band is finishing up its debut album, due this summer, for Stones Throw Records. The slow-motion beauty “I’m to Blame,” which slipped out as a limited-edition Flexidisc in LA Record back in March, offers lilting vocals from Quintero and guitar massaged in reverb and tremolo, four-plus minutes you can just let fade into you.
