Who: Palma Violets in the Mojave Tent
ӬIn 3 or Fewer Words: In your faces.
”¨Memorable Because: Alt-J are a nice indie band, the bespectacled boys down the block who own all the right albums, hang all the right posters and read lots of books, many of which seem to inform their songs. Palma Violets are from the other side of town; hide your daughters. In my perfect world, the first sonic blast from Palma Violets would have happened just as Alt-J’s jangle receded, while the Mojave Tent was still stuffed to the gills with shiny happy people holding hands. Alas, by the time Rough Trade’s latest sensations took the stage, Alt-J’s crowd had fled and the tent was less than one-third full. “This is an amazing turnout,” Palma Violets bassist Alexander “Chilli” Jesson said with tongue in his cheek (for the only time during the set). With that, Jesson and singer-guitarist Samuel Thomas Fryer led the quartet through a blistering 40 minutes reminiscent of edgy Brits like the Cribs and the Libertines. “180” is the name of the album. Mark it down, Weekend Two-ers.
”¨What I’d Tell My Friends Who Were at Passion Pit: Yougottabekiddingme.
