Video: Nico Vega, ‘Easier’

When we shared the title track of Nico Vega’s forthcoming album “We Are the Art” in late October, we thought the next bulletin to come from the electrifying L.A. quartet would be details of the release – which had been delayed due to singer Aja Volkman’s pregnancy. Not so fast. This week Nico Vega announced the release of an EP, “Fury Oh Fury,” coming in Feburary. It will include “Easier” (this video was directed by drummer Dan Epand) and the suddenly hot single “Beast,” which has given the mercurial band some unexpected traction. “Beast” (originally from their 2009 debut album) appeared in the trailer for the video game BioShock Infinite (after which, the press release says, the band enjoyed a 4,000% increase in single sales) and, to double their fun, the song is also being used in the trailer for the Tom Cruise movie “Jack Reacher.” Longtime followers [count us in] who followed their independent releases and travails with MySpace Records are bound to cheer a little bit. For Nico Vega, it was a matter of getting their explosive hard rock in the right place. And “We Are the Art”? It’s coming in the summer.
