Hot As Sun signs with Last Gang Records (and more tidbits from the label universe)

With all these obituaries having been written for the music industry, how come so many artists on the Buzz Bands LA radar keep getting signed?

The latest bulletin is that Hot As Sun – the collaboration between Jamie Jackson and Deborah Stoll that has blossomed into a full band – has hooked up with Canadian label Last Gang Records, home to the likes of Chromeo, Crystal Castles and Death From Above 1979. Hot As Sun’s first single “Come Come” is very familiar to BBLA readers, and you can hear a Tokyo Police Club remix of it here.  An EP is dune June 19, with a full-length this fall.

Hot As Sun’s news follows other recent signings, such as the Neighbourhood (who got a big deal with Columbia), the New Limb (Sony), JJAMZ (debut due July 10 on Dangerbird), Family of the Year (album due for Nettwerk that same day) and FIDLAR (Mom+Pop).  But a bunch more are on the horizon: Cillie Barnes is recording music for start-up label helmed by a veteran industry guy; IO Echo (whose new recordings are awesome) will be picked up by an über-cool L.A. label; and Lord Huron is signing to that same imprint. And it won’t be very long until a press release lands about Haim (just tabbed by NME among “Five New Bands We Love”), I’ll bet.

Fun times. Who am I forgetting?
