Coachella 2012: Wild Flag, flying the right banner

1

Who: Wild Flag at the Outdoor Theatre
In 3 or Fewer Words: Gutty and glorious.
Memorable Because: Hey, everybody, we like “Portlandia” too, but this is a rock show. That seemed to be Carrie Brownstein’s unspoken credo during the all-star quartet’s afternoon punk-rock barrage. The singer-guitarist-turned-TV-hero, who like bandmate Janet Weiss set the bar high in their ’90s band Sleater-Kinney, joined Mary Timony (Helium) and Rebecca Cole (the Minders) for 45 minutes of almost-riotous grrl-punk played to a crowd largely populated by youngsters who were still toddling when “Dig Me Out” came out in ’97. No nonsense, all class.
What I’d Tell My Friends Who Were at araabMUSIK: I guarantee you I didn’t have any friends at araabMUSIK.
