Ears Wide Open: Wilding

2

If the members of L.A. trio Wilding look familiar, it’s because they were formerly called Tigers Can Bite You.  Performing under a name that actually references the TCBY song, “The Wilding,” Dave Woody, Dave Bowman and Andrew Platts are still together but are continuing the heavier sound they found themselves playing after keyboardist Cindy Morrow parted ways with the band. Although shoegaze elements were never absent from TCBY’s sound palette, switching their foundation from keys to guitar has transformed the 3-piece into a solid rock band. Trading in their pop past for a tougher skin today where guitars roar in and out of distortion, drums dictate, and bass lines jump rather ferociously, Wilding’s new sound has yielded a self-titled EP produced by Light FM’s Josiah Mazzaschi. A second EP with more meaty arrangements is also on its way.
