Sunset Junction’s fate to be decided Monday

The fate of next weekend’s Sunset Junction Street Fair will be decided on Monday morning at a meeting of the Los Angeles City Board of Public Works. The meeting, which is open to the public (live audio is available here), is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. in Room 350 at City Hall.
At issue are fees totaling $267,000 the city says it is owed from last year’s festival, as well as a request for a sizable sum for city services this year. Sunset Junction organizers claim the city is overcharging for those services, which include police and road closures. According to a report today on Echo Park Patch, it has been recommended that the five-member board, which may hear comments from the public at the meeting, deny Sunset Junction’s permit.
Having seen the decades-long life of this festival and hearing about the recent shady practices of its organization, this shit needs to die.
The Jubilee is WAY better!
The Jubilee is pretty darned lame but I’ll take it over the obnoxiousness that is SSJ every year. They shoot horses, don’t they? What about a street festival that is well past its sell-by date?
And yeah, the organizers have been known for shady practices in the past and for bullying merchants who don’t tow the line.
