[Blogging may be light the next couple of days as your faithful scribe embarks on a little road trip. I’m pretty distraught over missing tonight’s battery of shows too, especially on such a special day – the birthday, as it is, shared by Jack White, Courtney Love and John Tesh.]

redcortez4The “Also I Like to Rock” series continues at the Hammer Museum, and this week’s free show is headlined by Everest and Red Cortez [pictured]. … Excellent local bill at the Silverlake Lounge too, where the Minor Canon is joined by His Orchestra and Courtenay Green. … Did I mention there was a good local bill at the Roxy too? The Start, Useless Keys and Bloodcat Love play there. …”  And not to sound like a broken record, but there’s a fine local bill at the Echoplex too, with Dusty Rhodes and the River Band, Olin & the Moon and These United States. … Also among bands you’d call your neighbors, Ingenue celebrates the release of “The Lolita EP” at the Viper Room, while You Me and Iowa and the Damselles play the Hotel Cafe, and the Ruse and Golden State team up at the Troubadour. … Meanwhile, Tortoise does a 6 p.m. in-store at Amoeba. … Gillian Welch plays Largo. … Steve Wynn and the Miracle Three visits the Echo. …
Cave Country holds forth at Spaceland. … And Les Blanks and the Rhone Occupation perform at Edgar Varela Fine Arts down on what figures to be a busy Artwalk night.
