Video: VUM, ‘Are You Animal?’

1

There are shades of dark, and the minimal music of L.A. trio VUM pulses in the shadowy space where mostly outlines are available. The Topanga Canyon-based threesome of Jennifer Pearl, Christopher Badger and Scott Spaulding earned well-deserved praise for their “Laura Palmer” single released last October, and they’re readying their sophomore full-length for release later this year. The single’s B-side, the drone-tastic “Are You Animal?,” gets a film noir treatment from director Andreas Attai in the new video released today. It features the band members along with fellow musicians and artists from the scene, including Devon Dadoune (Moto Rider), Jada Wagensomer, Mabel Moore, Dante White-Aliano, AJ Collins and Wendi Marissa. Says the band: “The video was inspired by the Hell’s Angels documentary photographs of 1960s photographer Bill Ray, with a small nod to Kenneth Anger’s Kustom Kar Kommandos, Ray’s photographs capture a kind of early psychedelic outlaw culture we think works well with our sound, and, in particular, this track.”
